iPod case

I made this case with cardmaking techniques. I used my Big Shot to diecut the leather butterfly. You can't see it in the picture, I embossed the leather first with an embossing template. The closure is a ribbon pop-up. Pull the ribbon, the ipod slides out of the case. A small magnet holds the butterfly to securely close the case.

I had such fun with this! I think I need one for my cellphone now!

I actually made a couple of cards the other day! This one is fairly simple, but I like it.

Still waiting for the weather to get more springlike here. Its above zero C, but still too cold for me. We still have mountains of snow on either side of our driveway, about five feet high, and the backyard is, on average, two and half feet deep. We face south, so the sun warms up the main floor enough to keep the furnace from coming on, so the basement (read stamp room) is freeeezing! Also, it is warm enough that holding a woolly item in my lap while knitting is too hot. I'm going to have to start stamping again!

I have always enjoyed taking photos. I'm nowhere near a "photographer" but I do like to take interesting pictures. I still have a really old (really old- leather bellows type) Polaroid with one or two packs of precious peel-apart film (no longer being made) that I've done polaroid transfers with. I guess that will be a lost art now. Sad. But I can get a similar look with of all things, my iPod and free or cheap camera apps.

I imagine I could make a card or two with some of my photos. I have one thats just crying out for some sort of embellishment. I'll have to experiment, and show some before and afters...

My latest project. I love my Kindle! I debated getting a cover for it, because I figure a cover kind of defeats the purpose of a light, slim reader. But, there are times when a cover would be handy. The cat likes to sit on it if its on a table. If I drop it, or drop something on it, I could damage it. Hubby likes this cover because if I'm reading it in public, it looks like an old book instead of an expensive reader.

Much as I like this one- it is butterflies after all- I'll probably make another when I find a better book. Who am I kidding- I'll probably make several! I like variety. :)

Do you have an iPhone, iPad or iPod? Do you love sketches? I designed this card for Sketches4cards an app for your phone! Too cool! I love having sketches right at my fingertips wherever I stamp. And there are lots to choose from- over 100! Scrapbookers, they have an app for you too- sketches2scrapbook.

I don't want to sound too much like a K-tel commercial (dating myself here!) but I'm new to the app thing. I got an iPod Touch recently, and love it. This is an app that will get plenty of use on my iPod!

I've still been knitting, but its another of my quirks- I love to start projects, but finishing them, not so much. Tucking in yarn ends, blocking and seaming... yawn. So I haven't anything knitted to show you either. I think I like the zen of knitting- the relaxation, the repetition of patterns, watching an item turn from a ball of yarn into a pretty scarf. I could just knit a big blanket, pull it all out and start over again. It'd save me money in yarn anyway!

I've been trying my hand at a bit of knitting and crochet this winter. My mom loved to knit and crochet, and occasionally, tat. She could knit a sweater or baby outfit and read a book at the same time! I'm still a beginner, I can only knit straight so far. But its nice to sit with my hubby and knit while he watches poker on tv!

This scarf gets comments every time I wear it. It was so easy to do, and I've got another on the go, in a pretty metallic yarn. I'm also trying a knit version, because while crochet is easy and relaxing, I don't really like the look of it. It kind of looks "crafty" you know?

I'll be in and out of the blog for a while- I suffer from seasonal affective disorder, and this is one of my bad winters. A step or two past "blue" but not real depression. I'll be fine, but I'm counting the days til February when I usually come out of it.

This is one of the the Christmas cards I made this year. Even though I hadn't made a card in a few months, when I saw this Tim Holtz snowflake edge die, I knew I had to have it. Snowflakes are my favorite holiday image. Funny, considering how much I hate the snow! :) The sentiment is computer generated.

Something new

Something new for me... I love inexpensive jewelry, and have a mini stores worth. :) I'm always on the lookout for vintage pieces, buttons and bits I can make into new-to-me pieces. Here are a couple of bracelets I made recently. The brown one was my first attempt, and while I'm sure no one else will notice, I see all the flaws. The blue one, I love!

Butterfly love

I whipped up this card quick- I forgot to make it for Twisted Sketches and had to do it yesterday. Bad me! It came together easily and I'm pleased with it.

I'm fighting a losing battle with a germ of some sort- the sore throat I've had for a couple of days is worse today. Luckily, thats all it is, no other symptoms. Hubby is working today, so I may have to walk to 7-11 for a nice icy slurpee. Now I wish I hadn't tossed the bag of frozen strawberries from the bottom of the freezer, a smoothie would be sooooo good....

The twist this week on Twisted Cards is Tiny. This card looked better in my head, but I was late and under pressure, so here it is. It is only 2x2 inches. I like the idea of inchies, but rarely use them. I have a clear set of all floral inchies I must pull out more often!

Has it been two weeks already? Time flies!

Time for another Twisted Sketch card. This weeks twist is "edge". As hard as the last card was, this one was easy. I used designer paper with a pretty lace edge, used an edge punch to make a scalloped strip, and decorative-edged scissors to make a (slightly) ruffled accent. I then used long hoarded sugar glitter to decorate the edges of my flower petals. Are you on the edge of your seat, waiting for me to use the word "edge" again? :)

Quilted Floral

This is one of those cards that started out completely different in my head. The Twisted Sketches twist was "fabric"- a tough one! I wanted to try out a new to me technique with sticky-backed canvas, where you make a transfer using designer paper onto the canvas. All my attempts ended up in the circular file! So this card says "fabric" in a different way. As a former quilter, I wish my stitches had been this neat!

I can't believe its near the end of August already! :( I have a habit of thinking- "I can't wait until next week, when we go away, or next month when company comes", next thing I know the summer is nearly gone, and I feel like in my impatience to get to the good stuff, I've wished it away. Today the air is filled with smoke from fires in BC, so you can't sit outside, as the air is bad, and theres no real sunshine. Looks like it will stay this way for a few more days yet. I am so not ready for fall!

Woohoo! I stamped! I had to do a major cleanup of my studio, but I found some mojo hiding under some of that stuff piled on the desk.

I saw a card like this one on someones blog, I cannot remember where. If its yours, thanks for the inspiration! I love the punched corner, and it gave me a chance to use my neglected Big Shot.

I was going through my stamps and found a bunch of old PSX "K" Botanicals- remember those? They were so pretty! I collected a bunch, but haven't used them in years. I looked on eBay to see what they were selling for- wow! Some were "buy it now" priced at $80.00! Of course those ones weren't selling, but the ones that were selling were going for more than I would have priced them in a stamp sale! I think I'll hang on to a couple of my very favorites and put the rest on eBay. Mama needs a Nintendo dsi xl! :) Staring at Puzzle Quest 2 on my ds lite for a couple of hours can give me a headache!

Wedding DVD Tin

A very different project for me. I don't usually do altered items, but the twist at Twisted Sketches this week is "metal" and I was inspired to go outside the box.

I wish I knew someone who was getting married so I could give them this tin for their wedding DVD! My wedding video was long before DVD, even before video- its on super eight! I really should get it converted, I think it would be fun to look back at the day I was married!

I know its been too long. Truth is, cardmaking has kind of become less important to me lately. I find the only time I make a card is when I have to. I've been in slumps before, they are no fun. I will still stamp, just not as often. I haven't even shopped for stamping stuff! I've been trying different crafts, jewelry making and knitting.

I still have design team cards to make, and card exchanges to do, so I'll still be posting here. Maybe, if you don't mind, occasionally, I'll share my latest jewelry or knitted items.

Mellow Yellow

Darn, I am so behind! I almost forgot to post this weeks Twisted Cards sketch! The twist for this week is Yellow. A color I don't use much, luckily I have this pretty paper pad, all in yellow!

I haven't been in the studio much at all these days- when the good weather is here you need to take advantage, cause it doesn't last long!

Today I was tidying the garden. I miss Ontario gardening, where you plant something, and it grows. Here, I have a shrub that gets winter killed every other year, a hosta I planted in 2005 thats still only 4 inches across, and plants that just disappear after planting. The only thing that grows well in my garden are the weeds! :) And the Jewel spiders- (shudder).....

Another rare flirtation with "cute"! I saw this Basic Grey paper and figured since I already had some stamps that went with it, I must buy it!
I've been MIA lately, I know. Its been a busy couple of months. We just got home from Vegas, and had to fly back to ON for a family emergency. (Don't you hate when you get to see family you haven't seen in years, but its at a funeral?) Then with catching up with missed tv shows, normal household dutes and spring garden and yard work, there seems to be so little time!
The nice weather is (slowly- one step forward, two steps back) coming, and over the spring/summer hubby takes at least a week per month off work. So stamping is on the back burner. Now and then, though, I sneak off to the studio! :)

Something a little different...

I am one of the most unlucky people- I swear I was born under a ladder with a black cat on it. We've never won more than a few dollars in any lottery or contest, anything we buy goes on sale a week later, usually whatever I buy ends up, on closer inspection at home, broken or ripped. If I really need it, its out of stock. Since I began blogging, I've never won blog candy. Even when we are guaranteed a prize, like at our bowling tournaments, our name is called last and we end up with the storage jars or screwdriver set that no one else wanted! (never mind that its my favorite screwdriver- I wanted the backyard fireplace!)
The luckiest thing I ever did was way back in 1978, when I said yes to friend who wanted to fix me up with a blind date. Yesterday we celebrated our wedding anniversary- 30 years with the most wonderful, sweet, caring man!
This is the card I made for him. It's pretty plain- no stamping, no embellishment other than the tiny clip, but it's manly, and he liked it! I printed the sentiment from my Hallmark card software, highlited a few of the words and used my Nesties to cut it.

This weeks twist at Twisted Sketches is "word" I found these word pins, buried in a drawer since I got them last year, and they were perfect! There is (gasp) no stamping on this card at all!

We just got home from our latest Vegas vacation, its always so hard to catch up after a relaxing week in the sun! (What is it my feet hate about Vegas- I always end up crippled with blisters and cuts from my summer footwear. I even pre-wore my shoes this time, so they wouldn't be stiff and new, but no- I ended up buying new shoes there as I couldn't wear the ones I brought- like every year) And buying new shoes is no fun at all! :) I found some cute gold spangly Sketchers slipons that I love. They remind me of those shoes that toddlers wear, the ones that light up with each step, cause mine sparkle with every step! Now I wish I'd got the silver ones too!

This card is made for the Twisted Card Sketch. The twist this week is "button", so I dug into my stash and found this one, I've had it for years! Since buttons are making a comeback, I'll have to use more of these vintagey pearl ones!

I also met a few requirements for my self- challenge to use up some of my rarely used items. The stamp has been used only once, the paper is older Basic Grey, the trim was sitting on the roll, to save for the perfect card. Even the pink cardstock is not something I normally use!

I want to try to use some of the stamps that have never seen ink. And use stamps that aren't butterflies. Of course, a butterfly may show up now and then. :)
I also want to use up some of the huge stash of pattered paper I have. I'm not saying I won't buy more- Basic Greys Kioshi line is so pretty, I need it! I wish they would slow down a little, I just get a pack of their new paper and they come out with more! Course it doesn't help that finding it around here is like finding gold- pretty rare.
And embellishments! I have a growing stash of rhinestones, flowers and pearls I need to start using.
Thats my challenge to myself!

Stitched Butterflies

Another card for the Twisted Sisters. I had fun with this one, its a different style for me.

Last night was my monthly stamp club meeting. My ride showed up and I wasn't ready to I hurried out the door, barely time to say goodnight to hubby who was on his way to work. Stamp club was great, as usual, I even stayed a bit later than usual, chatting. But when it was time to go and I was gathering up my stuff I noticed-no purse? I had forgotten it at home! That darn thing is normally welded to my shoulder! :) So, no keys to get in, no phone to call hubby, and becasue no phone with memory speed dial, I have no idea what his work number is! A friend drove me to where he works, (no easy task, it was dark and I've only been there twice in six years) where I had security call him. He assured me he'd left keys in the mailbox for me. So it all ended well. Funny though, just before I left for stamp club, we were discussing the fact that I should memorize his work number! Lesson learned! lol!

This has been sitting on my desk, unfinished for a while. I finally put it together yesterday. When I went to post it, I thought the picture wasn't great, so I re-took it today. Another cool Martha Stewart edge punch....
I was in the studio again this afternoon, and decided that my next card was not going to have any butterflies. It was tough! I looked through all my stamps, and kept going back to the butterflies. But I did it- my next card will be butterfly-less! (so far anyway, its sitting on my desk, also unfinished. Hope I can stop myself from letting any sneak on there!) Does it still count even if its just a small one?

Lemonade Butterfly

I found a place near(ish) me that carries a bunch of the Basic Grey 6x6 packs! woohoo!
So I picked up a couple that I didn't have. This is Lemonade. Most of the sheets are a bit too bright for me, I'll have to find a way to tone them down a bit. But they were pretty!
The butterfly edge punch I used is Martha Stewart, and every other butterfly pops up. For this card I just removed the popped up ones. They ended up on the card in other spots.
I think I need to do a little surgery on this butterfly stamp- I've never liked the flower in the corner. Do you do that? I do it a lot, just cut off the parts I don't like. Its easier than trying to not color that bit.

Origins butterfly

I finally got my order with the new Basic Grey Origins paper. Two scrapbook stores here in town, and several others within a short drive, and none of them ever order enough of the 6x6 pads! How hard can it be to order a few extra, knowing that customers want them?
Rant over... In the pack, I saw these papers, with a big scalloped edge and was instantly inspired. Literally. I dropped what I was doing and went down to the studio right away. This is one of two cards I made with one precious sheet. The other I'll post tomorrow!

Party Favor Bag

I made a few of these as favors for my Stampin Up workshop yesterday. They are an altered version of the "2,5,7,10" bag. I made mine a bit shorter, so the chocolate eggs I put inside fit better. I whipped them up in a rush the night before, but I'm thrilled with how pretty they turned out! I'd never tried that bag before, so I ruined a piece or two of paper before I got it right!

Paper roses, oh how real those roses seem to me. But they're only imitation, like your imitation love for me.... Every time I see one of these I'm reminded of the old Marie Osmond song! Yes, I'm dating myself a bit. :)
I thought since they seem to be all the rage, I'd give it a try. Its harder than it looks, or is that just the perfectionist in me? It can't merely be scrunched, it has to be scrunched just right!
Tomorrow is my birthday- the *BIG* one- and my sweet hubby has promised me a day of scrapbook stores, craft stores, shopping malls and dinner out. Heaven!

Autumn Floral

I hate winter! And so does my mojo. :) But Spring is just around the corner, so hopefully, is inspiration.
I have loved this stamp set from Papertrey ever since it came out. Finally I broke down and got it, so expect to see more of it! :) This isn't a spring-y card, the paper I used just didn't say spring, but I love soft browns.

Of course, I start with a butterfly! I love the soft colors in the Basic Grey Wisteria papers.
I finally gritted my teeth and paid the shipping cost for a couple of Papertrey sets. I've coveted the Autumn Abundance set since it came out last year, so with some Christmas money I ordered it, and this sentiment set.
I've been doing a little re-organizing in the stamp room, tidying and purging. Since I always feel more creative in a tidy room, maybe I'll stamp more!

Well, I'm still here! This is the first time I've been in the stamp room since early December. I'm a little rusty! Not a whole lot of stamping in this one, but at least its a start!
I haven't had the best winter so far, but I think I see the light at the end of the tunnel! I was pretty tired and slow over Christmas, and I caught a cold while we were away, but I'm starting to feel better now.
Now if I could find enough energy to clean up my stamp room!

Calendar card

I thought these were the coolest idea when I first saw it- each face of the card is decorated with three months and a different image, just untie the ribbon and flip to the month you need, and re-tie the bow! What a pretty desk calendar!
I am feeling so much better today- its been a rough two weeks. I had the worst headache of my life every day for 15 days. I don't have migraines, I truly feel sorry for those who do, if they are more painful than mine. But today I woke up with only a small one that went away in an hour or so, and have been pain free since. Whew! Fingers crossed for tomorrow!

Yes, I'm still here! I can't believe Christmas is here soon.
It was not easy coming up with this card- its a case, which I hate to do, but when the muse isn't around what else can you do? I haven't been feeling well, so I'd get the trees stamped one day, the next day, I'd die cut the background, etc, etc. So a simple card took me a week to complete.
Now to do the job I really don't like, writing the greetings and addressing the envelopes. I usually mess up at least one card with my bad penmanship or a spelling mistake. :)
We are going to Ontario to visit family for Christmas, I am so looking forward to that!!
Well, I have a couple of card ideas in my head, (in a tiny corner, crowded by a massive 6 day and counting headache!) Hopefully I can start to feel better and get some stamping done before we leave.

Gift box and pendant

So this is what I've been working on for the past few days. Our stamp club meeting is tonight, and the exchange theme is Gift Idea. I've seen scrabble tile pendants on etsy, so I thought I'd try one. I used a Tim Holtz clear acrylic tile, drilled a small hole for hanging, and adhered decorative paper with Glossy Accents. A nice bail and chain, and its good to go! I love it, and I think I'll have to make one for myself.

I made a box to match-I love matchy gift sets like that! Hopefully whoever gets this tonight likes it too.

Fall Tree

So, here is the card I made with my fall tree image from the last post. The rustic/twill/button/twine thing is different for me, but I like this one.
I've been toying with the idea of selling my cards online for a while. When I signed up for an Etsy account I ran into a roadblock. They want my credit card info, even though all transactions are PayPal. I will not give them my private cc info when they don't need it! When I emailed them, they intimated that they would be changing that policy "in the very near future" but, I'm still waiting. So, long story short, I'm going to try selling on a blog for now. When I get it all set up, I'll let you know!

I am having some serious creativity issues. I don't understand how something I love to do is so hard to do. I go in my stamp studio and I'm overwhelmed. I can't choose a stamp, I can't choose paper. Making one card can take days, or longer. I've gone through this before, so I'm hoping its only my regular winter blahs.
On to the card. This one actually came together fairly quickly, even though it started out differently than it ended up! I really tried to make it with something other than a butterfly. I had a fall tree all ready, with glittery leaves, but, in the end, its another butterfly.
Its an easel card, I love a different fold. I used a Mojo Monday sketch.
I should go now and make a card with the fall tree.....

Cracked Floral

I got may tags as done, and was so glad to be finished that didn't remember to take a photo. When I get the swap returned, I'll upload pictures.
This is my first stamping just for me- kind of - they are for an exchange, in a while. I've never done the crack thing, so I thought I'd try it. I couldn't seem to get any ink down into the cracks, so they don't show real well, but overall I'm pleased with it. The stamp is by Karen Lockhart.
I'm making a bit of a change on the blog- I'll no longer do a card info. Usually by the time I type this I've forgotten who makes the various papers used anyway. I'll post the stamp manufacturer, if I remember!

I've been stamping, inking, cutting, coloring my fingers to the bone, but nothing to share just yet. I'm in three Christmas Alphabet Tag swaps, (28 tags each) and I want them all done by Friday. And I started Sunday. Why do I always leave the big swaps to the last minute? And why do my ideas get more and more detailed?? Five layers on a tag? Little tiny crystals on each snowflake? Cutting out 28 tiny pairs of mittens? Sheesh! :)
I joined Facebook! Now while I'm no tech whiz, I'm not a complete internet moron either. I get that some sites have ads taylored just to me. But when I signed up for Facebook (never having visited the site) they show you all these "suggestions" for friends- how are they all people I know from blogs or email?? It feels a little creepy, like someone's watching.
Anyway, I'm almost "friendless" so look for me on Facebook, ok?

I spent some time in the stamp studio today. Its cool down there, nice when its hot inside the house. I can't take the heat the way I used to.
Here is another Lockhart image. I'm on a bit of a floral arrangement image kick these days, I saw Papertrey's Autumn Abundance set and really loved them, but refuse to pay their shipping cost.
My coloring is not great- my shading is crazy, some parts highlited from the top, some from the side, but I consider it artistic license! :)

Yup- its a cupcake. I know, I said no more cupcakes. But you know- never say never! When I saw these cute floral cupcakes by Karen Lockhart, I needed one. Actually, I needed them all, but I bought one. I need all the butterflies too! My budget is blown, so they'll have to wait a while though.

Speaking of blown budgets, (non stamping rant, stop reading if you're only here for the cards)
I do a fair bit of online shopping. I love eBay and Etsy, I buy stamps, vintage pottery and jewlery. Why is it that so many non-Canadian sellers seem to think that Canada may as well be Outer Slobovia and won't ship here? Its bad enough that I have to ask for shipping costs to Canada nearly every time I want to bid/buy, but to be told they won't mail to Canada is nuts! And the outrageous fees to ship here for some that will! $19 us to mail a 6x6 pack of paper and a package of nestabilities? $15 us for one CD case of clear stamps?? And what if I don't want it shipped by UPS? I don't want to offend anyone, but this is a hot button issue for me.

I've been wanting to make a tri-shutter card since I first saw one online. I finally sat down this morning to make this one. I pored through my papers to find judt the right ones, then through my stamps to fine just the right one, then selections all made, looked for some cardstock- oops, has to be 12 inches, that narrows the field quite a bit. I only have one pack of 12x12. In that pack is one sheet of the perfect color. I measure, cut and score and cut. When I fold it, something is wrong, it's all wonky! I check my measurements, but it all seems fine. Still the card won't fold right. Ok, there's enough cardstock left to cut another one. This one works! Yes! I'll cannabilize the wonky card for layering with, since its two sided cardstock. After much measuring, cutting adhereing, I'm ready for assembly. Whew! It's take me at least an hour so far. I pick up my prefolded card....wha?????..... I ACCIDENTLY CUT IT UP INSTEAD OF THE WONKY ONE!!!
Time for a break.
Luckily, I was going to the scrapbooking store anyway, I just grabbed some more 12x12 while I was there. I think it'll be a while before I try another tri-shutter card. :)

Butterfly Flip Card

I saw the idea for this on someones blog (I don't remember who- if it's you, great idea!)
It kind of flips when you open it, and the punched window reveals another stamped image.
This card sat unfinished on my desk for days while I searched my stash for the perfect ribbon. In a "duh" moment, I finally changed out the background color from olive to blue- I have ribbon to match that!
I've been making a few cards lately, but I can't show you just yet. They are for a demo I'm doing at my stamp club on Friday. Wouldn't want to spoil the surprise! :)

I made this card a while ago, but I'm not sure I like it. I like the idea, but not this particular card. I think I'll like it more with a bit of tweaking and a different focal image (a butterfly perhaps?) :) I'll share the new and improved version with you when its done.

Sheesh, if its not one thing, its another! I finally get back to normal after spending much of the summer away, or out and about, then I get sick. Nothing too bad, just a weird summer cold, that zaps my energy and concentration. So no new stamping. This is an older card, I made but didn't share. Its been a busy summer! Our trip home was wonderful, despite the rain and cool-ish temps. Seeing family was worth a little rain. Once home we had grand plans to do stuff around the house, but it never got done. Chilling out seemed like the thing to do, so we did!
Hubby needed a card the other day, so I let him go through the stash- two shoe boxes full of cards, no two alike. After a few minutes of looking he said " All your cards have flowers or butterflies, did you know that?" I guess I should stretch my imagination some and come up with something other than floral or butterflies once in a while. That said- here's my card. Another butterfly!

A quick post with a quick card. We've just had a little renovation project that has kept us busy for a few days. We had new flooring installed which meant the house was a mess, with furniture and appliances everywhere, and us confined to the bedroom while the installers were working.
But it was well worth it- our floors look fabulous!
On to the card. I used this same sketch a few posts ago, I quite like it. It makes for a quick easy card.
We are off again, visiting family back in Ontario for a week. If I get some spare time I'll schedule a post or two but I can't promise. What with packing, and putting the house back in order, time is short! Whew- putting baseboards back on takes a lot longer than taking them off!

So I saw this paper (K&Co Greenhouse) on a few blogs, and loved it. Its not my usual style, but something about it appealed to me. And it wasn't just that there's a sheet wiith butterflies. So the last time I went to Michaels, it came home with me. (love the 8x8 packs- card sized designs, but more paper than in the 6x6 pads)
This morning when I went into the studio (oooo- doesn't that sound all arty!) it was the paper I chose to work with. And thats when I knew for certain it wasn't my usual style.
I had the sketch all made up, the papers all set, the ribbon on- basically the card was made but for the stamped main image. I have a lot of stamps. Not as many as some, but a lot. And not one was just right for the paper. I searched through all my stamps, but only this one butterfly seemed to fit.
And yet just looking at this card makes me want to go make more! Would it be nuts if I just made a bunch of naked cards with this paper and finished them when I have stamps to go with it?? LOL!

Or you'll miss what is very likely the only cupcake card I'll ever make! I know they are hot right now, but I just don't get the appeal. (No offense intended to those who like or even make cupcake images!) There have been two cupcake images that caught my eye, this Stampin Up one is one of them. (The other is a snowman cupcake I saw but didn't buy)
This is a small card, just 4 1/4 inches. The design would suit a lot of images, depending on what paper you use. You know I've made a butterfly one already! :)

Can you stand another butterfly??
Hubby has abandoned me for the golf course this afternoon, so I got some stamping in!
This card design is a stretch for me, I don't usually do "less is more" clean and simple. I love the cards I see with this style, but making it myself, I don't know when to stop.
I think I got it right with this one, I resisted the urge to add another layer, and some pearls, and some ribbon...

This card was better in my head than on paper. I love the stamps, the papers, the River Rock-ish colors, but together they aren't working. I think the large rose on the paper is competing with the butterfly. That said, the card is still a keeper!
We are enjoying our stay-cation, the weather is good, and the livin is easy! We took a mini trip to Calgary, about three hours away to a Casino hotel we like. We shopped, ate and played the slots. The beds were heavenly! We still have more time off, but we'll be staying close to home.

This is one of those "quick" cards that took me days to finish. I had the main body of the card put together- the papers and the ribbon, then, nothing. Nothing fit, nothing matched, no stamp went with the design. So it sat on my desk for a couple of weeks. Finally I just stuck a butterfly on it, stamped a sentiment, and called it done.
I won't be posting too often over the next couple of weeks. Hubby has two weeks off work so we'll be in and out. We aren't planning on going away, except an overnight to Calgary next week.
But I'd rather spend my time with him than isolated in my stamp room!

I'm ba-ack!

Did you miss me? :) I missed you!
We had a houseguest for a few weeks, a friend was between houses and stayed with us while he waited to move into his new home. While it was nice to have him, it did put a bit of of a crimp into my stamping time. But now I'm back and ready to go!
Our Vegas trip was wonderful! Lots of fun, sun, food and drink. And a little gambling and shopping thrown in. What more could you ask for? My favorite Vegas scrapbooking store was closed when I got there (I hope not for good!) but I did get to JoAnn for some crafty shopping.
I made three cards today! Now its a good thing my stamp room is in the cold basement, as we are headed for hot weather this weekend.
This card is made with a downloadable template from the Hero Arts blog. (Scroll all the way down to the bottom of the post) I think its going to get a LOT of use! :)
The butterfly is about 4 1/4 inches square. The base is cardstock, with a layer of printed vellum, then a layer of patterned paper. You can't see the decorative head pin in it's "body". I got a package of pretty head pins all in white and light grey, I just colored one with my Copics to make it match!

Taking a break

In memory of my mom

Today I'm a bit sad. Its still hard to believe that my mother is gone, even though its been five years. Her family is long-lived, we figured she'd be around for a long time yet. With us being so far away from home, we didn't see how sick she was. She told us in November she'd been diagnosed with cancer and with surgery she'd be fine. Boxing Day she was rushed to hospital and two weeks later she was gone.

So, give your mom an extra hug today! I'd love to be able to hug mine.

On to the card... I saw the cutest template today on the Papertrey blog (sorry, no link right now) for a birdhouse. Its a free download, check it out! I immediately wanted to make mine a butterfly house! And a card to match. Mom loved butterflies and I've inherited that love.

I don't know what the paper is offhand, I bought the pack on sale at Michaels last week- its sparkly and has butterflies, what more can I ask for!

Like lots of you, I bought the Stampin Up Friendly Words wheel and cut it into individual sentiment stamps. I'll get much more use out of it that way!
This card is another one that started out completely different than it ended up. The only thing it has in common with the original idea is the papers. I *LOVE* this butterfly! Its a perfect size, and can be easily colored, or not, if you stamp it onto colored paper.

Just a quick post tonight. We made a cute version of this mini card holder at a Stampin Up workshop on the weekend. So of course I wanted to butterfly it up!
The bling flourish isn't great, the package I have is one huge flourish and I've been cutting it into smaller bits. I originally bought it to put on my laptop, and it looked fabulous, but it didn't stick very well, so I'm using it for cards instead.

Birthday Bling

I made this card for my SIL a while back. She got it last week, so I can show you now. There is an acetate insert across the card front, stamped with the birthday sentiment. I love the bling flourish!

I tell you this has been the roughest month! Hubby is working just about every night (all night) for most of April so far, plus he's sick, I have had the worst headache (today is the first pain free day in over a week -and pain free is a relative term-its there just not bad) my computer (my beloved new laptop) has been giving me trouble (could it be vista is the culprit?) And to top it off, its been cold (below 0 celcius) and snowing (&$%$) for the past three days!

The only good thing is we go to Vegas in less than a month! Woo Hoo!

A scrappy desk

Still nothing new for you. I've been dealing with the headache from h&!! for the past few days, so havent been in the mood for stamping.

A month ago, I fixed up an antique desk I got from my mother, to hold my laptop. It has one tiny drawer, and four cubbies. Not great for storage. So I made drawers out of chipboard and covered them with pretty paper. I covered a couple of containers to hold pens and a dollar store notepaper holder to match.

I have another publishing story for you. This one has always bugged me!

In 2000 I sent in some cards to a magazine, I got back a rejection letter, saying they thought I'd violated copywrite issues. (I sent to two mags, the other one published them no problem) The very next issue of the magazine had a card made by the person who signed the rejection letter, that was almost an exact copy of my card! I can understand being inspired by a card, and making one kind of like it, but hers was the same stamp, the same colors, the same flavor. Mine had a butterfly, hers didn't. Mine had silver foil accents, hers didn't. But they were so close, in my mind there was no mistaking the similarity. Like I said, I get making a card similar to someone elses, but I'd never publish it as original. I wish I could show you the two cards side by side, but I think I could get into trouble for that! I do still have the original card (its one of my favorites) and the magazine. Perhaps this is the reason I hate to case a card!

Catching up

I haven't got anything new I can show you yet, so I thought I'd dig into my archives and share something I made a couple of years ago for a magazine. Back then, I'd sent in several cards to Take Ten for their challenge. I got an email from them, saying they loved my style, and would I be interested in being a featured Guest Artist. Would I!?? Wow! I was going to be "famous"! They asked for 15-20 more cards. So I made a bunch of cards- agonizing over them, second guessing myself, and finally mailing them off.
After about a month with no word from them, I emailed them back- did they not get my cards, or did they not like them?? They emailed back- "oh, yeah, that editor is no longer with us, we'll let you know"... I think they eventually published one or two of the cards I sent. And they never did publish any of the challenge cards that first caught their interest.
I have been published before, several times, a couple of them whole technique articles. But for me, every time feels like the first time. I'd been rejected a time or two as well, but nothing felt as bad as that Take Ten rejection. Aside from a couple of stamp club group submissions, (which also got rejected) I haven't sent anything in since.
Blogging is much more satisfying! I share a card, and no one says its not good enough for them! Plus, I still get to keep the cards I share. :)

This card is based on one I saw on the Hero Arts blog. I love the acetate strip, going right through the whole width of the card. The sentiment is stamped onto the acetate with Stazon.
I didn't have colored pearls, so I colored the plain ones with Copics to match. They look great!
We have a storm on the way, they are calling for 5-8 cm (2-3in) of snow! sigh....

You know how that goes, this part doesn't work but that does, etc. Next thing you know the finished piece is nothing like you expected. It started out to be a floral, but I like the bird! On a sad note, our local stamp store is closing its doors. When I first moved here I was floored when I saw Western Educational. It had more stamps than I had ever seen in one place! I never attended any, but they had the greatest classes. I am sorry to see them go.

I'm seem to be back in the stamping groove again! Whew- feels good to be able to go into my stamp room and come out having actually created something, without struggling, and with more ideas still in my head!
This card sat on my desk, unfinished for a couple of days, waiting for the right ribbon. Of course, it can't be found- doncha hate that? ( a lady beside me in the ribbon aisle at Michaels had an armload of ribbon- saying "there is sooo much to choose from", but, of course, the color I want they don't have) So I substituted a narrower sheer ribbon, and added a cuttlebugged border.
Well, hubby is at work tonight, there's nothing I can watch on tv, so I hear the stamp room calling...

I seem to be obsessed with making window cards lately! It gives even the most simple card a little oomph. (sorry for the bad photo! gonna have to find a better photo taking spot)
I'm starting to use springy colors now too. Hoping for spring, I guess. I read somewhere the four seasons in Edmonton, Alberta are: winter, still winter, almost winter and next winter. It sure feels like it here! Its near the end of March, and still sub-zero celcius temps, and more snow in the forcast.

I struggle with cards for men. Not only do I not have many stamps suitable for guy cards, but its tough for me to make a manly card, without ribbon or flowers or butterflies. Luckily I have lots of papers good for man cards, and with a few masculine elements and a couple of hours, I can usually make a card I'm fairly happy with.
I got this Stampin Up set a couple of years ago, and never really looked at it- I only just now noticed that you can pinpoint actual dates and times with it! All this time I thought it was just clocks!

Yes, I am still here! :) Still having mojo issues. But today I had to get into the stamp room out of necessity. This is one of two cards I made. It took about four hours to make two cards!
I recently got a Stampin Up workshop order in, so I had a pile of goodies sitting on my desk. I love this Bella Birds paper, the butterfly from the Kind Thoughts set matches! I used a rub-on for the sentiment, first time using them. Its prettier in person, I still can't take a good photo in the new stamp room. There's only one small basement window, thats either too sunny or not sunny enough.

Hmm, I'm sensing a color theme here- I seem to be all about green and brown lately. The colors of spring perhaps, if this snow would ever melt. (it has to stop falling first!)
I was inspired by a card on the Hero Arts blog, (the purple one, about halfway down the page) and since I love butterflies I had to make my own. The main image opens up like a mini card. I think I'll be doing more of these- I could do different shapes, and can put my Nesties to good use!

I've been in the stamp room, but not stamping. Its the only room I can set up my old sewing machine safe from the cat. (Rosie, in a room with pins, needles and a hot iron?? I kept picturing the part of the Grinch where the dogs tail gets sewn into the Santy Clause suit)
I haven't done any sewing in years, aside from the odd pillow cover or pants hem. My machine has only the basic straight and zigzag stitches, and squeals and groans with old age and obsolescence. But I made this cool bag for my laptop. I lusted for some that I saw on etsy, but oh, the price! In the end this one ended up costing me just as much (doh!)
I took a while to choose my fabrics, it wasn't until after days of online searching and then in-store shopping, that I settled on this Amy Butler print in green, chocolate and blue. The inside lining is a coordinating stripe. I didn't realize til later that she also does scrapbooking paper! I spotted this very line in Michaels the other day, but it was on sale so I couldn't use my 40% off coupon.
So now, I can put away the sewing machine and get back to stamping! (well, I do have some fabric left, maybe I should whip up a minibag for my Nintendo ds...)

Whew! I finally got the camera thing figured out- not without a lot of stress and a few tears! I had to download the newest version of my camera software, otherwise Vista didn't recognize the camera. And even then, it works differently on this computer than it did on the other one. But all that aside- I'm here, and so are my photos! Thanks for sticking with me while I worked the bugs out!

No photo, just some info- the book in my last post is not my idea, I saw it on Paper Jewels blog.
I meant to give her credit, but I forgot. My bad. She has a tutorial on how to make it.
So far today, the laptop is my friend- only one small wireless drop out, easily reset. I still haven't figured out how to download the photos off my camera though.
Being a crafter through and through, I want to decorate my laptop- Stampin Ups Decor Elements Flourish would look so pretty, if it came in a color other than chocolate or white. Maybe some bling, I think I saw some pretty butterflies at my scrapbook store the other day....

I managed to get a little stamping in today- this laptop has me pulling out my hair in frustration!! Is it normal for the wireless connection to drop in and out? The next time I call tech support will the guy speak English as a first language? Its hard enough understanding computerese without the accent. Where did my camera window go?? I have no idea how to get the pictures off my camera any more, it will do only all of them at once. The cat is obsessed with killing my mousepad. (really) If I don't hide it when I'm done with the computer, she shreds and chews it. How come the really pretty laptop cases on eBay don't have room for your power cord, battery and mouse??? And the ones with room want more to ship than the case costs! AAARRRGHH!!!!! .....i have a headache......

So, this little book is made with- TOILET PAPER ROLLS! How cute is that? I squished them flat, covered them with dp, and tucked a tag into each roll for photos or journalling. I bound them with my Bind it All. Next time I'll use thinner dp- this is heavyweight Basic Grey, and it makes the "pages" thick, so you really have to work at getting them into the BIA.

I managed to get a little stamping in this week. I got myself a laptop computer and have been busy getting her all set up. I'm nowhere near tech-y, so its a learning process. This is my first blog post using it.
Anyway, you're here for the card! I made a couple of these for my monthly card exchange. I used a sketch from Stampin Kub (sorry- no clicky link, I haven't got those set up yet)

I know I'm not posting as often as I should. I've been getting unsubscribers lately. I've been having a creative slump, as I often do in winter. I can suffer a bit with SAD, making me a little blue and a lot un-inspired. But, February is the time I usually pick up, so things will get better.
I saw a fun project the other day that's tweaking my creative bone, I just have to get myself in gear and get to it.

While I can't say I've ever seen pink butterflies in nature, I think they'd be really pretty! In order to match this Basic Grey Paper, I needed my butterflies to be pink. Artistic licence!

I truly hate being computer-less! We got our computer back yesterday and are still getting it all set up again. There are a few hiccups, for some reason, when I plug in the usb connection for my camera it knocks out the computer. And all my new cards are still in the camera. So nothing yet to share with you. Please be patient while we work out the bugs!

Just a quick post- no card to share- our computer is dead, I am hoping (crossing fingers and toes) to get it repaired and back by the end of the week. I am going stir crazy with no email, no Puzzle Quest, no blogs to read! But I AM stamping!
